Studio Build Technician
Role & Key Responsibilities:
As a Studio Build Technician, you will be responsible for the construction, integration, and installation of physical prototypes, sets, and studio infrastructure. Working closely with engineers, designers, and production teams, you will translate creative concepts and technical specifications into functional studio environments. This hands-on role requires practical knowledge in carpentry, AV systems, and electrical installations.
You will be responsible for:
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and design specifications to build studio sets, prototypes, and gaming product components.
- Construct and assemble studio elements including set pieces, props, structural supports, and enclosures using wood, metal, plastics, and other materials.
- Install and configure studio hardware (e.g., cameras, lighting, cabling, audio systems, control gear) to ensure full integration with existing infrastructure.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to propose practical, technical solutions that align with creative visions and production needs.
- Perform equipment testing, troubleshooting, and iterative refinement of setups before and after deployment.
- Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations and internal risk assessment protocols.
- Maintain workshop tools, equipment, and supplies; report and coordinate repairs or upgrades as needed.
- Document build processes, configuration changes, and installation notes for future reference.
- Work to tight deadlines and support on-site studio installations or emergency modifications when required.
- Carry out any other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in line with the company’s operational needs.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in set construction, technical theatre, AV production, or similar studio build environments.
- Strong carpentry and fabrication skills, with experience using power tools and workshop equipment.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of electrical systems and audio-visual hardware.
- Familiarity with health and safety practices relevant to construction and electrical environments.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Experience working in fast-paced, multidisciplinary teams with shifting priorities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate with engineers, creatives, and stakeholders.
- Self-starter with a solution-oriented mindset and excellent time management skills.
- Experience in broadcast or gaming studio setups is desirable.
- Knowledge of AV signal routing, IP-based studio systems, or media servers is a plus.
- CAD or 3D modeling knowledge for prototyping or visualisation is highly valued.
